Today's Coffee: Waking up with a baby next to the bed

Hello everyone! First, we have to introduce the newest addition to our family: Wilson Aiken Russell! He was born on February 25th, 2011 at 6:51 pm weighing 8 lbs 2 oz and 21 inches long! He is wonderful! I can't even describe how amazing the little dude is! Our first couple of days as a family of three have been nothing short of tiring but lovely.

The morning after he was born the doctors decided to admit him into the Newborn Special Care Unit because of a few concerns they had with his mucous buildup and a few popped blood vessels in his back. We didn't get to see our little man until 1:30ish that afternoon but the doctor's said that everything was fine and he was in great shape. Sadly, by this point Thomas has gotten one of his migraines and trying to keep it under control. Our first night there we were in a double room we had to share with another family. Not the most awesome of situations, but you cope and deal with what you've been handed. After Wilson came back from nbscu we were moved to a private room. Thomas was sleeping on the couch at this point and really wasn't feeling good with the headache. My dad eventually took both Thomas and my mom home for the evening and it was just Wilson and me in the hospital. I was super scared at first and since I hadn't really slept I had Wilson taken to the nursery so that I could sleep a little  - but with all the checks the nurses do and all the buzz I didn't really sleep. It was a long night but once Wilson came back around 3 am for a feeding I kept him in the room with me - he screamed some and so I sang to him for a long time until he stopped fussing.

The next day was discharge day - super fun! We were going to be able to go home, I was going to put on something other than a hospital gown and we were all so excited! It took a long time to get it all together but we made it home around 1 o'clock in the afternoon. And, ever since then it's been trying to find time to sleep, trying to figure out breastfeeding, trying to walk and be mobile again and learn how to take care of Wilson. It's been really tiring but oh goodness, looking at our child, I mean, we have a son - that's crazy! We love holding him and talking and singing to him and I cannot wait until I'm well enough to start taking him places and introducing him to everyone!

Well, he's down for a nap right now so we are going to snag one ourselves (Thomas and I) since we have a few minutes before things start happening again. With all the excitement going around we haven't been reading our Bibles as much as before but now that we have a child, 'family worship' has a whole new meaning to us. We can't wait to sing hymns and read Scripture to him. It's going to be awesome.

Thank you for the prayers and love and support!

In Christ,
Thomas, Julie and Wilson
